AKC Bloodhounds are a valuable part of search and rescue work. The bloodhound has the ability to follow the trail of a missing child, find an alzheimer's patient, or even cartrail a criminal. Many lost and exploited children could have been saved had a bloodhound been put on the trail.
Travis and Brenda DeAun attended the 2005 Texas Bloodhound Assoc. 4 day seminar in South Texas. They received a certificate of completion and certification in 40 hour of mantrailing. They currently have 4 trained bloodhounds and are working towards joining the local SAR association. We feel it is important to give back to society, when we have been so richly blessed.
It is our philosophy every sherriff's office should make use of these canine detective. We offer scholarships on a limited basis to sherriff and police agencies in the US in order to facilitate this need.
An AKC registered bloodhound is considered acceptable evidence in a court of law. The bloodhound must trail fromt he scene of crime to the criminal. The dog must be experienced and proven reliable. A good handler will have kept a log of training and finds. Also, the courts will expect supporting evidence to back up the bloodhound's find.
